TRAINING PHILOSOPHY

My training philosophy is centered on handler/owner focused accessibility, real world behavior reliability, clear handler and canine communication, fairness, and the well-being of the dog.

I will use treats to shape and lure initial behaviors, but continued traditional treat use of feeding after every correct cue and behavior contributes to handler complexity (variable reinforcement schedules etc.). Additionally, If treats are used incorrectly it can create a treat dependency resulting in the dog doing the requested behavior only if it knows treats are readily available.

I primairily use martingale collars for on leash training and e-collars for off leash training. This produces real world behavior reliability. These tools provide precise, consistent feedback that helps dogs understand expectations more clearly. When properly fitted and used correctly it allows clear communication while minimizing the amount of physical force required durining training.

Every dog is an individual, and no single tool is appropriate for every situation. If a prong collar is recommended, I recommend that the prong collar serve as a temporary training tool and the dog transitioned to a martingale, flat collar, harness etc. as the dog progresses. I carefully evaluate each dog's temperament, behavior, training goals, and individual needs before recommending any training equipment, ensuring the approach is tailored to both the dog and owner.

About

BSuit
Canid Care Murl

Located in Tazewell, Tennessee, Canid Care LLC is a veteran-owned small business founded and operated by Murl Trainham Jr. After retiring from the military following 20 years of dedicated service, I began pursuing a second career focused on improving the lives of animals and the people who care for them.

My journey started at a boarding and training facility in the Pacific Northwest, where I was hired as a kennel technician and advanced to the role of dog trainer. During my time there, I worked with dogs and owners in both on and off leash obedience training, helping owners build stronger, more rewarding relationships with their canine companions. Witnessing the life-changing impact that structured training can have on both dogs and their families reinforced my passion for dog training and animal care.

To further expand my ability to support animal wellness, I attended the Northwest School of Animal Massage (NWSAM), where I developed skills in small animal massage. This training enables me to provide massage services that can help enhance the overall quality of life for companion animals.

At Canid Care LLC, my mission is to provide compassionate, professional training that help dogs live healthier, happier lives while strengthening the bond they share with their owners.
